Joyful and brimming with light, Snatam Kaur Live in Concert Volume 2 is the latest album from the world-renowned devotional singer and Grammy-nominated recording artist. A follow-up to Snatam’s beloved first Live in Concert album (2007), the six tracks on Volume 2 were recorded in various US cities during her 2019 concert tour. Guided by Snatam, with her luminous, warmth-filled voice, the album taps into the beautiful alchemy of her chanting and singing with audiences. The result is an inviting, uplifting volume of collective prayer. The audience’s voices serve as an additional instrument with Snatam and the band, which together create a transformational experience of sacred mantra.
Each of Snatam’s concerts is structured energetically as a journey, and the tracks on Volume 2 recreate that experience for the listener. The album begins in quiet introspection and moves through stages of finding healing in mantra, pure celebration, and a space of prayer and blessing. “Our concerts allow me to connect to the soul space like practically nothing else in my life,” says Snatam. “It’s so powerful and gives me a lot of courage, hope, and a beautiful sense of self and collective love. I feel I’m speaking from that open soul space on this album, hoping to give listeners a window into it.”
Collaborating with Snatam on the live tracks is Ram Dass on piano, clarinet, guitar, and vocals, Grecco Buratto, guitar and vocals, and Sukhmani Rayat, percussion, table, and vocals. Track One: I Am Love
“I Am Love” is the uplifting debut single from Snatam Kaur Live in Concert Volume 2. The catchy, fun, finger-snapping track was originally performed at the Riverview Performing Arts Center in Sarasota, Florida, on October 23, 2019. Inspired by the power of sacred chants that convey the message of “I Am Love,” Snatam wrote the lyrics to celebrate the energy of love — the soul’s expression within each of us. With its easy playfulness, “I Am Love” is a heartening treat in these troubled times. The audience’s enthusiastic participation reinforces the track’s joyful affirming quality.
“I Am Love” was a highlight of Snatam’s 2019 touring show, and the recording captures that verve. “I’m excited for listeners to feel the celebratory energy that’s created through the power of chanting,” said Snatam. “It’s my prayer for myself and for humanity, to really vibrate in that essence of love, for each other and for ourselves.
